Day 1

Yesterday morning a group Sam's friends met him on the platform of Newcastle Central Station to support him at the start of his 300+ mile walk for Life.

Sam is walking to London in memory of 2 Southgate RFC players, Micky Bundle and Johnny Allen, who both tragically died of Leukaemia in the last 3 years. On route Sam will be raising money for Leukaemia Research and the Anthony Nolan Trust.

Included in the group that joined Sam on his first day was Glenda, Mickey's wife, and friends of both players ranging in age from 4 to 70 years old. Sam started his walk from Kingston Park, the home of the Newcastle Falcons Rugby club and to mark the beginning of this inspirational journey, Sam was piped on his way by Mr Noel Scott and Mr Kevin Scott of the Rothbury Highland Pipe Band.

The route for day 1, saw Sam taking in a number of landmarks in Newcastle, including St. James Park, the Scottish and Newcastle Brewery (home to the famous Newcastle Brown Ale), and the Tyne Bridge, where Sam finished the first 5.5 miles of his journey back to London.

Day 3

Sam is off and "walking" again today and hoping to reach Scotch Corner this evening.

Today could be one of his hardest days, he has a long way to go, and it isn't flat up there!!!

Send him a text or give him a call.

Sam has completed Day 3 of his walk and has safely arrived in Scotch Corner.

His meanderings today have taken him through the countryside of North Yorkshire, and by the dales.

Sam mused at the end of his days walking that "I've never seen so many cows and sheep, and the countryside smells of s**t!!".

Having set off bright and early this morning, Sam had a slight change of route as he was heading in the wrong direction, and was also heard to comment "bloody North East, it's sodding raining!".

Having struggled through the light drizzle (which we now believe was the cause of the chafing), Sam made it back to the A1 and onto Scotch Corner in record time, only to find that all the cash machines were out of order and the 30p in his pocket was not going to get him a room for the night and a hot meal, at this point Sam would like to thank his sponsors for supplying the Kit Kat chunky that he had for lunch!

Luckily, the network came to the rescue and Sam has both a room and some cash in his pocket.
