Day 2

So Sam started his walk back home in earnest today with the first real distance day ahead of him. Leaving the “fog on the Tyne” Sam headed out from the Tyne Bridge buoyed and lifted by the support he received on Day 1. “You lot haven’t half cheered me up”, he said, “I really feel I can do this now, thanks to you all”.

This leg of his journey would take him along the old A1 route from Newcastle to Durham, and in fine spirits and fine weather Sam made great progress (not being derailed by the “Superpie” shop on Gateshead High Street), he was quickly out of Gateshead and past the famous “Angel of the North” and heading down Durham Road.

Having been in touch with Middlesex Uni who then contacted Durham Uni, Sam had secured a place to stay in the Durham University halls of residence, a big thanks to both Uni’s for helping with this, and Sam has now made a note to himself to have these sort of brilliant ideas earlier in the future, instead of the day before!

Durham was easily reached, and Sam in fine mood choose to continue on down the road to get a few more miles under his belt, finishing his day at Thinford, before heading back to the halls for a long bath, and some well deserved rest. At this point Sam would like to make a special thanks Vaseline soon to be one of his sponsors (if the chafing continues).
